Module Type Package 2 (en)

Module Type Package
Interface between module and plant engineering

What is MTP?

MTP (Module Type Package) is a description semantics — comparable to a device driver — that can be used to quickly and easily reconfigure your plant, laboratory, or technical center.

Advantages of MTP

Quickly ready for use

Plug & Produce enables modules and devices to be integrated as easily as a printer with a PC.

Save resources

Shorten your time-to-market and changeover times and increase your efficiency.

One solution for all applications

Greater flexibility in your laboratories, technical centers and production facilities. Different processes and the production of different products on the same line are no longer a problem.

Escape vendor lock

Enables fast and simple communication between components of different automation manufacturers.

Who should use MTP?

module vendors

engineering tool vendors

field device vendors

plant operators

control system manufacturers

plant manufacturers

This is how it works

Is MTP an industry standard or a Semodia product?
MTP is an industry standard required for the automation of modular systems and defined in the VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 guideline.

MTP is the technological basis for the transition from rigid to dynamic plant structures and is required to enable modular production. Individual package units – known as modules – can be integrated into a higher-level control system (process orchestration layer) and thus controlled individually.

Mtp_FAQ_Industry
MTP stands out thanks to its manufacturer independence, which is achieved through standardization. It also offers a wide range of possible applications in various areas of automation.

Example MTP in the MTP Viewer on the Semodia Platform

The MTP has the form of a text file and is comparable to a printer driver. It is packaged as a ZIP file and consists of AML files. However, reading the information contained in this format is only possible to a limited extent.

The Semodia Platform offers the option of conveniently reading MTP files with the MTP Viewer and obtaining all important information at a glance.

An example MTP for a coffee machine can be viewed free of charge on the Semodia Platform.

We can show you how to use MTP!
