PAVIS Engineering and Semodia cooperate for future-oriented automation - semantically integrated and MTP-based
Ravensburg/Radebeul, June 4, 2025 – PAVIS Engineering GmbH and Semodia GmbH are entering into a strategic partnership to jointly implement modern automation concepts. The focus is on the semantic description of modular systems using standardized technologies such as the Module Type Package (MTP).
As part of a major international project – the automation of one of the world’s largest production plants for monoclonal antibodies – PAVIS is assuming overall responsibility for the automation concept. Semodia is contributing its extensive expertise in semantic system description and MTP to this project and is responsible for all MTP-related tasks as the contractor.
One highlight: The entire system is specified using so-called rMTP files – a pioneering step that not only describes the modular structure of the system, but also makes this information machine-readable and interoperable. The result is the world’s first production plant that is fully defined using rMTP.
“Semantics, ontologies and standardized interfaces such as MTP are not an end in themselves,” explains Dr.-Ing. Stephan Hensel, Managing Director of Semodia. “In practice, they enable faster commissioning, more flexible maintenance and digital expandability – this is exactly what we are implementing together with PAVIS in this project.”
Both partners are pursuing the goal of transferring this methodology to other plant projects and thus creating a sustainable basis for digitalization in the process industry – from pharmaceuticals to chemicals to food & beverage.
